FST Lisboa
A group of less than 10 students, from Instituto Superior Técnico, started a Student Nucleus so they could apply the theoretical knowledge they were learning in class. In 2001, they were introduced to Formula Student and they knew they wanted to be part of it. By then, they only had one broken engine. Today, 22 years and 11 prototypes later, FST Lisboa has participated in dozens of Formula Student competitions and is constantly pushing the boundaries to get the best out of their prototypes. Students build a single-seat formula racing car, with which they compete against teams from around the world. The competition is won not just by the team with the fastest car, but by the team with the best overall package of build, performance and financial and sales planning. Teams assume they are a manufacturer developing a prototype to be evaluated for production. The car must have very good driving characteristics such as acceleration, braking and handling. It must be offered at a very reasonable cost and be reliable. In addition, the market value of the car increases through other factors such as aesthetics, comfort and the use of readily available purchase components.
