PIEP - Pólo de Inovação em Engenharia de Polímeros
The Polymer Engineering Innovation Pole (PIEP) is a reference entity in the field of Polymer Engineering that supports industrial R&D+i needs worldwide, through the development of polymer-based systems and solutions of multisectoral scope. Established on 13 December 2000 at the initiative of industry and in close collaboration with the Department of Polymer Engineering of the University of Minho (DEP-UM) and the Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation (IAPMEI), PIEP's mission is to be a reference entity in polymer engineering innovation, contributing to the development of the national industry in the plastics and related sectors, ensuring a response of excellence in the delivery of products and services in a timely manner, oriented to the R&D+i needs of its associates, customers and partners based on differentiated knowledge in strategic technological domains, materialising the vocation of converting ideas into products. PIEP provides the development of polymer-based systems and solutions of multisectoral scope through innovation activities, technology transfer, technical-scientific consultancy and service provision, based on the promotion of sustainable development principles. PIEP is organised in 6 main technical domains that operate in an integrated manner: - Extrusion, Composition and Advanced Materials; - Product Design and Development; - Circular Economy and Environment; - Advanced Manufacturing Processes (Composites); - Advanced Manufacturing Processes (Polymers); - Testing, Trials and Failure Diagnostics. PIEP also actively contributes to training, supporting the development of human resources with capacity and experience in industrial innovation in the field of polymer engineering.
